Statement of Alliance

How to Create a Statement of Alliance

Over the past three decades, there have been 1,181 Indigenous women recognized as murdered or missing in Canada by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; however, Indigenous communities estimate that over 4,000 women are lost. #InUnity raises awareness of this gap.

Phase I of #InUnity was completed on October 19th 2017, where over 250 participants gathered to form a human medicine wheel out of umbrellas.

Phase 2 of #InUnity will consist of an art exhibit at the Guelph Civic Museum from March 10, 2018 to April 30, 2018. This exhibit will display the photographs from the October 19 event. For the same exhibit, we are looking to display ‘statements of alliance’ which show an individuals allyship with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW).

The statements of alliance should include a selfie or group photograph along with a sentence or two stating why they stand #InUnity with MMIW. If you are feeling stuck with what to say, consider finishing this sentence: “I stand #InUnity because ______”.

You can submit your statement of alliance to our email: inunity2017@gmail.com
